ONBOARDING DEATHLOOP
MY WORK
Organizing
To structure My approch to Deathloop's onboarding. First, I played the game to get a feel for the mechanics and pacing that a new player can expect.
I then listed the mechanics introduced, as well as the elements that had left a positive or negative impression on me during my first game.
Onboarding analysis
Secondly, I tried to break down the various onboarding events into sequences and link them to each of the mechanics in the gameplay loop.
I also used gameplay videos to detail each sequence from a conceptual point of view (level design intent, narrative, gameplay bricks).
To conclude, I replayed some of the games to allow me to synthesize my experience, without the novelty.I was able to focus on the advantages and disadvantages of Deathloop's onboarding, bearing in mind les autres jeux du Arkane's other games as well as others in the same genre.
Conclusion
I learned to organize my work over a short period of time, structuring and synthesizing my ideas as efficiently as possible. I was able to think more deeply about the need for impactful onboarding and its ability to make the experience digestible for the player.
I was able to balance my time between practical testing and writing a document proposing a pertinent reflection on the challenges of immersive-sim onboarding.
